Numerical modeling of mass transfer processes coupling with reaction for the design of the ozone oxidation

摘要: A computational model for an ozone oxidation column reactor used in dyeing wastewater treatment is proposed to represent, simulate, and predict the ozone bubble process. Considering the hydrodynamics, mass transfer, and ozone oxidation reaction, coupling modeling can more realistically calculate the ozone oxidation bubble process than the splitting methods proposed in previous research. The modeling is validated and shows great consistency with experimental data. The verified model is used to analyze the effect of operating conditions, such as the initial gas velocity and the ozone concentration, and structural conditions, such as multiple gas inlets. The ozone consumption is influenced by the gas velocity and the initial ozone concentration. The ozone’s utilization decreases with the increasing gas velocity while nearly the same at different initial ozone concentrations. Simulation results can be used in guiding the practical operation of dyeing wastewater treatment and in other ozonation systems with known rate constants in wastewater treatment.

Heat and mass transfer of ammonia-water in falling film evaporator

摘要: To investigate the performance of heat and mass transfer of ammonia-water during the process of falling film evaporation in vertical tube evaporator, a mathematical model of evaporation process was presented, the solution of which that needed a coordinate transformation was based on stream function. The computational results from the mathematical model were validated with experimental data. Subsequently, a series of parameters, such as velocity, film thickness and concentration, etc., were obtained from the mathematical model. Calculated results show that the average velocity and the film thickness change dramatically at the entrance region when <100 mm, while they vary slightly with the tube length in the fully developed region when >100 mm. The average concentration of the solution reduces along the tube length because of evaporation, but the reducing tendency becomes slow. It can be concluded that there is an optimalβrelationship between the tube length and the electricity generated. The reason for the bigger concentration gradient in the direction is that the smooth tube is chosen in the calculation. It is suggested that the roll-worked enhanced tube or other enhanced tube can reduce the concentration gradient in the film thickness direction and enhance the heat and mass transfer rate.

Studies on the liquid-liquid interfacial mass transfer process using holographic interferometry

摘要: This paper aims at the interfacial phenomena of liquid-liquid mass transfer and its characteristic. By using the real-time holographic technique, the concentration distributions on the aqueous side were obtained according to holographic diagrams of mass transfer of ethanol through the interface of oil and water at different initial concentrations. Furthermore, the concentrations near the interface and the mass transfer coefficients were attained. A correlation of concentration near the interface to the concentration of the solute in the oil side was proposed. An approach of interfacial energy with solute concentration was established, and the calculated results are at good agreement with the experimental data. It is indicated that the liquid-liquid mass transfer process is approximately in accordance with two-film theory, the interfacial performance may be changed by the addition of the solute, and the interface of liquid-liquid is non-equilibrium thermodynamically during the mass transfer process.

The role of single deformed bubble on porous foam tray with submerged orifices on the mass transfer enhancement

摘要: Foam trays with porous submerged orifices endow bubbles uniformly distributed, which are considered attractive column internals to enhance the gas-liquid mass transfer process. However, its irregular orifice and complex gas-liquid flow make it lack pore-scale investigations concerning the transfer mechanism of dynamic bubbling. In this work, the actual porous structure of the foam tray is obtained based on micro computed tomography technology. The shape, dynamic, and mass transfer of rising bubbles at porous orifices are investigated using the volume of fluid and continue surface force model. The results demonstrate that the liquid encroaching on the gas channels causes the increasing orifices velocity, which makes the trailing bubble easily detach from the midst of the leading bubble and causes pairing coalescence. Additionally, we found that the central breakup regimes significantly improve the gas-liquid interface area and mass transfer efficiency. This discovery exemplifies the mechanism of mass transfer intensification for foam trays and serves to promote its further development.

Simulation of interfacial Marangoni convection in gas-liquid mass transfer by lattice Boltzmann method

摘要: Interfacial Marangoni convection has significant effect on gas-liquid and/or liquid-liquid mass transfer processes. In this paper, an approach based on lattice Boltzmann method is established and two perturbation models, fixed perturbation model and self-renewable interface model, are proposed for the simulation of interfacial Marangoni convection in gas-liquid mass transfer process. The simulation results show that the concentration contours are well consistent with the typical roll cell convection patterns obtained experimentally in previous studies.

Heat transfer characteristics of high heat flux vapor chamber

摘要: To meet the challenge of heat spreading in electronic products, highly efficient high heat flux heat transfer vapor chambers have been manufactured and their heat transfer characteristics have been studied by a fast test system. A solid copper block with the same shape as the vapor chamber is used to compare the performance of the vapor chamber. The result shows that, it will take about 5min to achieve a steady state in the fast test system. The heat transfer characteristics of the vapor chamber are more superior to those of the copper block. In this paper, total thermal resistance of the test system is used to evaluate the heat transfer characteristics of the vapor chamber, because it has already been used to consider both the spreading thermal resistance and the flatness of the vapor chamber.

Experimental study on heat transfer characteristics of supercritical carbon dioxide in horizontal tube

摘要: The heat transfer characteristics of supercritical carbon dioxide in a horizontal tube with water in the vertical cross flow form were experimentally investigated. The results indicate that the changes of inlet pressure, mass flow rate, and cooling water flow rate have major effects on heat transfer performance. The variations of Reynolds number and Prandtl number were obtained in counter flow and vertical cross flow. The four conventional correlations for convection heat transfer of supercritical carbon dioxide were verified by the experimental data in this study and the correlation agree with this experimental condition was determined.

Mass transfer mechanisms in fixed-bed adsorption of erythromycin

摘要: The equilibrium and kinetic characteristics of the adsorption of erythromycin to Sepabeads SP825 were determined. The equilibrium data in a batch system was well described by a Langmuir isotherm. The separation performance was investigated in a fixed-bed system with respect to the adsorption superficial velocity, ionic strength and pH. A mathematical model was used to simulate the mass transfer mechanism, taking film mass transfer, pore diffusion and axial dispersion into account. The model predictions were consistent with the experimental data and were consequently used to determine the mass transfer coefficients.

Transfer function solving, simulating and testing of thermal dynamics characteristics of a ballscrew

摘要: Based on the theory of heat transfer, the transfer function between the thermal deformation of any point on the lead screw and the temperature of heat sources of a ballscrew under the influence of multi-changeable heat sources is solved by using the Laplace transform method. By solving the amplitude-frequency characteristics and phase-frequency characteristics of the transfer function, the steady-state response of thermal deformation of the ballscrew is obtained, and the thermal dynamics characteristics of the lead screw under the influence of multi-heat sources are further studied. Comparing with the result of finite-element simulation, the theoretical analyzing result accords with the steady-state part of the finite-element simulating result. Through tests of the steady-state response of thermal deformation, the thermal dynamics characteristics are further studied. The curves of tests by and large accord with the theoretical analyzing result, which shows that the method of transfer function is correct and valid in solving the steady-state response of thermal deformation.

Chemically reactive solute transfer in a boundary layer slip flow along a stretching cylinder

摘要: This paper presents the distribution of a solute undergoing a first order chemical reaction in an axisymmetric laminar boundary layer flow along a stretching cylinder. Velocity slip condition at the boundary is used instead of no-slip condition. Similarity transformations are used to convert the partial differential equations corresponding to momentum and concentration into highly nonlinear ordinary differential equations. Numerical solutions of these equations are obtained by the shooting method. The velocity decreases with increasing slip parameter. The skin friction as well as the mass transfer rate at the surface is larger for a cylinder than for a flat plate.

Review of the LNG intermediate fluid vaporizer and its heat transfer characteristics

摘要: The intermediate fluid vaporizer (IFV), different from other liquefied natural gas (LNG) vaporizers, has many advantages and has shown a great potential for future applications. In this present paper, studies of IFV and its heat transfer characteristics in the LNG vaporization unit E2 are systematically reviewed. The research methods involved include theoretical analysis, experimental investigation, numerical simulation, and process simulation. First, relevant studies on the overall calculation and system design of IFV are summarized, including the structural innovation design, the thermal calculation model, and the selection of different intermediate fluids. Moreover, studies on the fluid flow and heat transfer behaviors of the supercritical LNG inside the tubes and the condensation heat transfer of the intermediate fluid outside the tubes are summarized. In the thermal calculations of the IFV, the selections of the existing heat transfer correlations about the intermediate fluids are inconsistent in different studies, and there lacks the accuracy evaluation of those correlations or comparison with experimental data. Furthermore, corresponding experiments or numerical simulations on the cryogenic condensation heat transfer outside the tubes in the IFV need to be further improved, compared to those in the refrigeration and air-conditioning temperature range. Therefore, suggestions for further studies of IFV are provided as well.

Analysis of flow and heat transfer characteristics of porous heat-storage wall in greenhouse

摘要: The flow and heat transfer characteristics of porous heat-storage wall in greenhouse are studied by using the one-dimensional steady energy two-equation model for saturated porous medium. The results show that the heat exchange between the air and the solid matrix of the porous heat-storage wall depends upon the inlet air velocity, the porosity and the permeability of porous medium, and the thermal conductivity of the solid matrix. Because the incidence of solar radiation on the porous heat-storage wall is not uniform, the new composite porous solar wall with different porosity is proposed to reduce the disadvantageous effect.

Air-side heat transfer and friction characteristics of biofouled evaporator under wet conditions

摘要: The effects of biofouling on air-side heat transfer and friction characteristics under wet conditions of three biofouled finned tube heat exchangers and one clean finned tube heat exchanger were investigated experimentally. Experimental results indicate that the biofouled fin efficiency of the evaporator decreases by 15.5% compared with the clean evaporator under the condition of the biofouled area ratio of 60% at the inlet air velocity of 2.0m/s; The ranges of friction fouling factor and heat transfer fouling factor are 19.8%―43.1% and ―15.6%―13.1%, respectively; a small quantity of biofouled particles can enhance heat transfer at low Reynolds number, and the enhancement effect decreases with the increase of Reynolds number.

Influence of mass air flow ratio on gas-particle flow characteristics of a swirl burner in a 29 MW pulverized

摘要: In a gas/particle two-phase test facility, a three-component particle-dynamics anemometer was used to measure the characteristics of gas/particle two-phase flows in a 29 megawatt (MW) pulverized coal industrial boiler equipped with a new type of swirling pulverized coal burner. The distributions of three-dimensional gas/particle velocity, particle volume flux, and particle size distribution were measured under different working conditions. The mean axial velocity and the particle volume flux in the central region of the burner outlet were found to be negative. This indicated that a central recirculation zone was formed in the center of the burner. In the central recirculation zone, the absolute value of the mean axial velocity and the particle volume flux increased when the external secondary air volume increased. The size of the central reflux zone remained stable when the air volume ratio changed. Along the direction of the jet, the peak value formed by the tertiary air gradually moved toward the center of the burner. This tertiary air was mixed with the peak value formed by the air in the adiabatic combustion chamber after the cross-section of / = 0.7. Large particles were concentrated near the wall area, and the particle size in the recirculation zone was small.
